JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) – Less than two weeks after being released from a federal prison, mobster Anthony “The Saint” St. Laurent has died.

Johnston Police Chief Richard Tamburini said St. Laurent – who was 75 – appears to have died of natural causes. Police do not have an investigation open into his death.

St. Laurent had just been released from Fort Devens Federal Prison on Oct. 26 after serving seven years for attempting to hire hitmen to kill a rival mobster.

St. Laurent suffered from a myriad of health conditions and used a wheelchair.

His son, Anthony St. Laurent Jr., was released from prison in March after serving a sentence in a separate extortion case.
